Paper Craft Creator Block – or the Mojo is Missing

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 26, 2022 by Karen GilbertJanuary 26, 2022

Yes, the Paper Craft Creator Block is here!, In other words, the Mojo is missing. Often it happens as we enter a new Year.  Why, oh why did it happen.  Well, there are several reasons, and for me the single most popular reason is burnout.  With the busy holiday season that just pasted, many, like me were busy making cards and gifts and enjoying the season.

There are solutions if you are having creator block.  For example, you may need inspiration.

  • Where can you find that inspiration?Paper Craft Creator Block
  • Yes, you will receive a gift so that you can get started right away.  Now, you may not have the same supplies that I used.  However, you are able to create these cards with the supplies that you have on hand.  These cards will be unique to you!!!
  • During the first week of the  month,  you will receive an email detailing 3 different projects.  On of the projects focuses on a technique.  It could be a fun fold, or embossing or as simple as masking and/or paper piecing.
  • In addition, you will find out about promotions, online and in person classes (they could be ZOOM classes).
  • Each week you will receive a shorter email, with some time sensitive information, or an additional project.
  • Other places to search for inspiration is on my Blog, Simply Said with Karen.
  • Also, you can lots of samples in the catalogues.  If you don’t have a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I would love to be yours.  Email me at karen@simplysaidwithkaren.com if you would like to receive the current catalogues.

So, sign up before the next newsletter is set to be sent out (like next week).  You can use the form on the upper right on this page or the pop-up form if you have never visited my blog before or use this LINK.

So if you are suffering from paper craft creator block, you can find inspiration from the newsletters.

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 17, 2022 by Karen GilbertJanuary 19, 2022

An Accordion Fun Fold or Fancy Fold Card is fun to create.  Use the Blessings of Home Stamp Bundle and the  coordinating papers and embellishments.  You will have a wow card.

Why is this card called an accordion card?  Well, because when you pull on the flap on the left hand side of the card, it will open up like an accordion, Sorry, you can’t hear any music, but you will enjoy the stamped images.

You will find a tutorial to download Here.

There are lots of layers in this card, however, I am sure that you will enjoy creating it and then giving it to someone.  How often do you create cards and then set them aside to collect duct.

Here are a few ideas for what o do with these cards that don’t find a home:

  • Donate them to a Retirement Residence so that the residents can use them for family, friends.  Over the last couple of years, isolation as been hard for them to deal with..
  • Send them to thank First Responders for their hard work.  It’s important to look after their mental health. They would love to hear from you.
  • Send them out yourself.  Why would you go to the  trouble of making beautiful cards and then let them sit and  collect dust.

This week, challenge yourself to identify 10 people to send your cards to and then “JUST DO IT”.  #makeacardsendacard.

Add Color to White Velvet Papers Technique – Last Christmas Card

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 9, 2022 by Karen GilbertJanuary 11, 2022

Use color on White Velvet Papers to add interest to your card. This technique is very easy to accomplish using an ink pad and Blending Brush.  I used the  Poinsettia dies, and you could use any dies with this technique. You will also see a video below which takes you through the technique as well as shows how to create this card.

Color White Velvet Paper

 Poinsettia Petals Card Recipe

Stamp Set: Poinsettia Petals, Tidings & Trimmings.

Inks: Evening Evergreen Cherry Cobbler

Paper: Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent, Tidings of Christmas DSP.

Accessories: Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Poinsettia Dies, Sweetly Stitched Dies, Stitched Greenery Die, Gold Leaf Foil, Gilded Gems, 3/8” Evergreen Open Weave Ribbon, Blending Brushes Shop With Me for Supplies.

Cutting Measurements:

Evening Evergreen (8-1/2” x 5-1/2”

Soft Succulent (3” x 4”)

Tidings of Christmas DSP (4-1/8” x 5-3/8”)

3/8” Evergreen Open Weave Ribbon  1 piece at 5″ & 1 piece at 4″

Details

The embellishment in the middle of the poinsettia is different in this picture from the one shown in the video.

To achieve the look in the photo:

  • After the poinsettia is assembled and the leaves attached, put a dab of Multi- Purpose Liquid Glue in the center of the flower.  Set aside to dry for a bit.  Once the glue feels tacky, put some Gold Foil Flakes on the glue and press.  Now, use a sponge or your finger to brush off the excess foil.
  • Attach a gem to the middle of the gold foil flakes.

Unfortunately, the White Velvet. Paper is not available now….but if you are lucky to have purchased this before January 3rd, 2022 try it out and put your card  in a  safe place until next holiday season.  You can still purchase the stamp set Poinsettia Petals  and the poinsettia dies from the 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue.

create a fancy fold wiper card

Peaceful Deer – Double -Z Fold with wiper mechanism

  • The measurements for the card base are the same (cardstock & scoring).
  • The background for the penguins is the Peaceful Place 12 x 12 Specialty DSP which is sponged with Balmy Blue ink and the Blending Brushes.  Somehow this treatment says “Winter” through and through
  • Create the wiper mechanism the same on both cards, Follow along with the video.
  • The greenery treatment is exactly the same.  Wipe VersaMark on the greenery and emboss with White and heat set.

Stamp the sentiment on Basic White, with Balmy Blue ink and die cut with Stitched So Sweetly Dies.  Using a slightly larger die, cut a piece of Balmy Blue cs .  Attach to the sentiment to the frame.Penguins enjoy the winter

Paper Crafting Mistakes and How to Fix Them

Simply Said With Karen Posted on October 17, 2021 by Karen GilbertOctober 17, 2021

Paper crafting mistakes are annoying and then they happen, we try to fix them.  Sometimes the fix turns out and sometime is doesn’t. When I designed this card, I wanted to do a wiper card.  The wiper card has a mechanism that will pop out an image when it is opened.   However, greenery die cut with the Christmas Pinecones dies, had too many sharp branches.  The design called for the star to pop out from behind the smaller z-fold, but it kept sticking on the branches.  By this time, all the cardstock and designer series papers were cut and attached.

So, what did I do? Instead of throwing out the half done card, I took the wiper mechanism off the back of the z-fold strip and went in another direction.
