Simply Said With Karen Posted on September 28, 2020 by Karen GilbertOctober 2, 2020

Sunshine in the winter may be hard to find. However, the Snowflake Splendor Suite helps to get rid of the winter blues.   The suite will make you smile with its beautiful papers, sparkly ribbon, embossing folder and embellishments. Use it for occasion cards including Christmas, Anniversary, and/or Birthday.

Snowflake Wishes Recipe

Stamps: Snowflake Wishes.

Ink: Misty Moonlight.

Paper: Whisper White, Balmy Blue, Snowflake Designer Series Paper, Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper,

Accessories: Stampin ‘Emboss & Die Cutting Machine, So Many Snowflakes Dies, Banner Triple Punch, Snowflake splendor 1/4″ Ribbon – 6″

Cutting Measurements

Whisper White: – 11″x 5-1/2″ Score at 5-1/2 and burnish with Bone Folder
Balmy Blue – Scrap for Sentiment
Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper – 5-3/8″ x 5-3/8″
Snow Flake Designer Series Paper – 5-1/8″ x 5-1/8″.

Assemble Card

  • Layer and adhere the Balmy Blue Glitter Paper on the Whisper White card base.
  • Select the Designer Series Paper panel. Use the Stampin’ Emboss & Die Cutting machine and the largest Snowflake Die. Center the die in designer series paper. This die will not cut the shape but will cut the design in the paper.
  • Adhere this panel to the Balmy Blue Glitter Paper. You will see the glitter paper through the snowflake design.
  • Stamp the sentiment on a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock.
  • Flag the ends with the Banner Triple punch.
  • Attach the ribbon across the center of the card.
  • Attach the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensional

Decorate the inside of the card with a strip of designer series paper, and/or stamp an image and/or stamp an additional sentiment,

It’s often difficult to purchase square card envelopes. However, if you have the Envelope Punch Board that Stampin’ Up! retired a couple of years ago, you can create your own envelope. For my envelope, I used a piece of designer series paper. This card is excellent to send in the mail. Not a lot of layers and/or embellishments that have a bit of height.

If you would like to recreate this card and need supplies, shop my ONLINE STORE.

Anytime is Peony Time. Enjoy Your own Peonies even with no garden

Simply Said With Karen Posted on September 11, 2020 by Karen GilbertSeptember 14, 2020

Anytime is peony time, even if they usually bloom during the summer months.  What do you mean you can  have peonies at any time. Well, the Peony Garden Suite can help you out.  This beautiful suite has everything you need to create so may projects.  Some ideas are cards,  scrapbook pages, home decor items, and packaging.

The only thing I don’t like to have peonies in the garden are the “ANTS”.  I am not sure why ants are so attracted to these flowers.  So, if you don’t like ants, leave them in the garden and if you do have them in the house, make sure you try and get all the ants off the blossoms.

anytime is peony time

The main colours in this suite are Petal Pink, Gray Granite and Basic Gray.  But, there is no rule that you can’t use other colors.  Embellishments are designed to coordinate with the papers.  So, no hunting for things that match.

There is also a video that will help you assemble the Peony.  Give it a look, and while you are there subscribe to my You Tube channel.

Basic Grey: 3″ x 5″.

Petal Pink scraps for peony and Garden Green scraps for leaves.

1/4″ Shimmer Ribbon – Gray Granite – 8″.

Assemble the Card

  • Emboss the Petal Pink panel with the Dainty Diamonds Emboss Folder. Adhere to Card Base.
  • Attach the DSP to the Petal Pink panel.
  • Die cut the bottom for the Basic Gray cardstock with the scalloped end die.
  • Die cut the peony petals from Petal Pink.  Sponge the petals with the Sponge Dauber and Petal Pink ink. Assemble the flower.
  • The leaves are die cut from Garden Green cardstock and sponged with Garden Green ink.
  • Eyeball where to place the peony making sure you have room on the Basic Gray to stamp your sentiment.  Stamp your sentiment with VersaMark ink and heat emboss with Heat Gun. Attach panel to DSP.

Poinsettias and Christmas – Doesn’t get much better

Simply Said With Karen Posted on August 26, 2020 by Karen GilbertAugust 26, 2020

Poinsettias and Christmas come hand in hand during the holidays.  We usually see red poinsettias, however, there are many colors, such as white, pink, salmon, apricot but none are blue, at least naturally. Sometimes you do see blue. But these colors are “designer” colors and are made by using dyes.

Poinsettias and Christmas

This suite includes the Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper which is beautiful to see in person.  There are 3 different designs: 1 with the scroll effect, 1 with poinsettias, and 1 with leaves.  You can use the poinsettia and leaf dies to cut elements from the paper.

View the 3 different designs HERE.

Do You Create Your Christmas Cards Early – When is Too Early?

Simply Said With Karen Posted on August 15, 2020 by Karen GilbertAugust 15, 2020

Do you create your Christmas cards early so that you can relax and enjoy the other activities.  The upheaval we are in will likely extend to the end of the year.  We miss our loved ones and our friends as expanding our bubble could result in more COVD19 outbreaks.  Is it possible that we could have “stay at home” orders imposed on us again.

Sorry, don’t mean to be a downer.  What I am saying, is, this year, more than ever we need to let our families and friends know how much we care about  them.

Create Your Christmas Cards Early

Early Christmas Card Recipe

Stamps: Poinsettia Petals *.

Ink:Blushing Bride, So Saffron, Garden Green., Soft Seafoam,Poinsettia Place

Paper:Whisper White Thick, Soft Seafoam,  Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper, Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper..

Accessories: Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Poinsettia Dies*, Square Vellum Doilies

*Purchase the stamp and dies and save 10%

Stampin’ Up! continues to provide use with suites of products so that we don’t have to find coordinating products.  How many times have you bought a blue ribbon and find that it’s not the right hue or right depth of color.  So, Stampin’ Up! does all the thinking for us.

The Poinsettia Place Suite appears on pages 14 – 16 of the Aug – Dec 2020 Mini Catalogue.  Check it out.  One of the products in the suite is the beautiful Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper.  This paper is flocked and you can use it as a background, or some of images such as the poinsettias and leaves can be die cut with the matching dies.  The other embellishment that is beautiful is the Beaded Pearls, with 3 in a cluster sparkly jewels.

Cutting Measurements

Whisper White Thick – 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, score at 4-1/4″, fold and burnish with bone folder.

Forever Greenery DSP ; -5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ and 2-3/4″ x 5″.

Soft Seafoam – 5-1/4″ x 4″ and 4″ x 4″, scrap for sentiment.

Details:

  • Layer and attach the panels: large DSP to card base, Seafoam panel to DSP and finally the smaller DSP panel to the Soft Seafoam panel.
  • Layer 1 Square Vellum Doily on the square piece of Seafoam.
  • Die cut 1 Poinsettia and 3 leaves from the Flocked DSP.  Sponge the edges of the poinsettia with Blushing Bride ink, the center with So Saffron ink,  and the leaves with Soft Seafoam ink.
  • Die cut twigs from Soft Seafoam cs.
  • Attach the poinsettia to the center of doily and place and attach the leaves and sprigs around the poinsettia.
  • Finally, stamp the sentiment in Garden Green ink on a Soft Seafoam scrap.  Attach on the lower right side of card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Now sit back and admire your card.

So, to answer my question, Is it too early to create Christmas card?  No, it’s never too early.

To create this card with the supplies that I have given in the directions, shop my ONLINE STORE.

# SimpleStamping For a Beginner Crafter This Card is For You

Simply Said With Karen Posted on August 10, 2020 by Karen GilbertAugust 10, 2020

Use # simplestamping to search for cards on the internet with a few products.  These cards should not be complicated with dies, embellishments and/or fancy techniques.

We don’t want to scare away the beginner stamper.  They maybe reluctant to join a class if they are confronted with complicated and time consuming techniques and/or tools they don’t have.

For the month of August, Stampin’ Up! has challenged demonstrators to create a card using stamps, ink, designer series paper and paper (cardstock). The theme for this month is Spooky/Whimsical. Oh what fun!

simplestamping

SimpleStamping Recipe

Stamps: Celebration Tidings

Ink: Tuxedo Black Memento, Bumble Bee, Blackberry Bliss.

Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Blackberry Bliss, Plaid Tidings 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP).

Accessories: Aqua Painters.

Instructions:

Cutting Dimensions for the Papers:

Basic Black – 5-1/2: x 8-1/2″ , scored at 4-1/4″, fold and burnish with bone folder to get a crisp crease.

Plaid Tidings 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper – 5″ x 3-3/4″

Whisper White: 4-1/2″ x 3=1/2″

Blackberry Bliss: – 2″ x 5″

How to Put it together

  • Push on the lid and squish some Bumble Bee ink into the ink pad lid- wet the Aqua Painter Brush with a little water and pick up some ink from the lid. Swipe the brush back & forth to create a wash of colour. Tip:  Because Whisper White cardstock has been milled several times, it is quite fragile, so if you get too much water on the brush and/or swipe too many times (that’s what makes it so smooth), the cardstock will pill.
  • From the stamp set, choose the stamps related to Halloween. Load up the large scroll stamp with tuxedo Black ink and stamp on the top and bottom of the Whisper White Panel.  Don’t forget to turn the stamp around so that you get a mirror image of the scroll. Next, stamp the sentiment,  Happy Haunting” using Blackberry Bliss ink in the center of the Whisper White panel.
  • Stamp a spider on each side of the sentiment using Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Adhere the designer series paper to the Basic Black cardstock and adhere the Blackberry Bliss to the DSP. Finally, attach the Whisper White panel on the top.

Your Spooky # simplestamping card is done.  Now give yourself a whoo-hoo if you are a beginner stamper. Or, even if you are not a beginner, than give yourself a whoo-hoo anyway.

Merry Moose Celebrates Christmas In July – Get Started on Your Cards

Simply Said With Karen Posted on July 26, 2020 by Karen GilbertJuly 26, 2020

Merry Moose celebrates what is coming in 5 months today.  Yes, we are over halfway through the year, so now is a great time to start your Christmas and Holiday cards.

The 2020 August to January Mini Catalogue includes favorite products from last year’s Holiday catalogue.  So, if you missed out then, you can purchase them this year.

This card is based on a Card Sketch that I posted on my Facebook Page .

The sketches help with your MOJO when you are looking for inspiration.  When you check out my Facebook Page, be sure to “LIKE” it so that you get notifications when something is posted.

Merry Moose CHristmas

The Merry Moose Bundle is one of the returning faves from last year. Merry Moose Celebrates

Merry Moose Christmas

Stamp Sets: Merry Moose, Buffalo Plaid.

Ink: Tuxedo Black Memento, Early Espresso, Shaded Spruce, VersaMark.

Paper: Basic Black, Shaded Spruce, Real Red, Crumb Cake, Whisper White.

Accessories:Emboss & Die Cutting Machine, Stamparatus, Layering Circle Dies, Stitched Shape Dies, Moose Punch, Banner Triple Punch,  3/8″ Black Glittered Ribbon, Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

Details to Create the Card

Cardstock and Cutting Dimensions

  • Basic Black – 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″ and folded, 1/2″ x 5-1/4″.
  • Shaded Spruce – 5-3/8″ x 4 -1/8″, 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″-
  • Real Red – 3-3/4″ x 5″, 4″ x 3/4″.
  • Whisper White – 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″, scraps for scarf.

Create the Card

  • Ink the Buffalo Plaid stamp with Tuxedo Black ink and stamp on the Real Red cardstock. TIP:Because this is a large stamp, I find it easier to use the Stamparatus.  I also start with a larger piece of cardstock (larger than I need).  Even though I do my best to stamp a straight image, it never seems to work out and I need to trim my paper before applying to card base.
  • Attach a 7″ length of the black ribbon to the panel’s left side and attach to the Shaded Spruce cs.
  • Adhere both panels to the Basic Black card base.
  • Now, cut the scalloped circle from the Shaded Spruce cs using the second largest scalloped circle from the Layering Circle Dies. Cut Whisper White cs using the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Dies.
  • Use the small tree and stamp with Shaded Spruce ink in the middle of the WW circle.  Move the stamp to the right and up, and without inking stamp another tree.
  • Ink the large tree with Shaded Spruce ink and stamp off once on a piece of scrap paper and stamp on the left of the middle tree. TIP: this treatment adds dimension to a flat piece of paper.
  • Stamp the moose with Early Espresso ink on Crumb Cake cardstock. Use the Moose Punch to punch out moose.  With Shaded Spruce ink, stamp the scarf on WW cc and fussy cut with your Paper Snips.
  • Attach the smaller Basic Black panel across the bottom of the plaid. Stamp a greeting on the Real Red cs with the VersaMark, sprinkle silver emboss powder on the stamped words and heat emboss with heat tool.
  • Punch with Banner Triple Punch. Attach over the Black cs.
  • Layer the focal image on the scalloped circle and attach over the plaid with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

A Focus on Bundles Series First Up Blossoms in Bloom Bundle

Simply Said With Karen Posted on July 16, 2020 by Karen GilbertJuly 16, 2020

A focus on Bundles (stamps and dies or stamps and punches) is a series of posts looking at the various coordinating products. Bundles are a great way to purchase products at a reduced cost. How do you know that a product is part of a bundle?

The name of the bundle and a Green Circle with  the words 10% off appears through out the catalogue.  Find a selection in the Die Bundles and/or the Punch Bundles Sections.

Today,  the focus is on the Blossoms in Blooms Bundle.

Use the dies and ink to create this card.Blossoms in Bloom Bundles

Adventure and Curiosity is a 12 Year Old’s Right to Passage

Simply Said With Karen Posted on July 8, 2020 by Karen GilbertJuly 8, 2020

Adventure and curiosity is in the blood of a 12 year old.  To recognition of these traits, I set out to create this birthday card for my grandson.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could harness these traits to use when we get older.  Somehow we loose our sense of adventure and curiosity.

What a better  stamp set to use than the Silhouette Scenes combined with the Beautiful World Stamp set.

You can create cards for a birthday, graduation, thank you, etc with this stamp set.

You can purchase the suite with 1 item # and receive; the Beautiful Wold Bundle (stamp & die at 10% discount), World of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper, Old World Paper 3D Embossing Folder, Faux Suede Trim, Brass Foil Sheets, Antiqued Corners & Slides and the World of Good Memories & More Card Pack.

The Silhouette Scenes stamp set and coordinating Sweet Silhouette dies are great for kids and young people.

Adventure and Curiosity Birthday Card Recipe

Stamp Sets: Beautiful World Stamp, Silhouette Scenes.

Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Early Espresso.

Paper: Very Vanilla, Cinnamon Cider, Misty Moonlight, Basic Black, Early Espresso, World of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper, Brass Foil,

Accessories: Embossing & Die Cutting Machine, World Map Dies, Early Espresso Faux Suede Trim, Antiqued Corners & Slides.

Stamp the silhouette on Very Vanilla cs with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and fussy cut. There are no coordinating dies for the silhouettes.

The circle is cut from Misty Moonlight cs and the world  (with North America & South America)  is cut from Basic Black cs.  Attach the world  to the Misty Moonlight cs circle. Die cut the globe stand from the new Brass Foil and attach to the globe.

Attach the globe and stand to the DSP, before attaching the silhouette, attach one end of a length of ribbon around the dsp and the Cinnamon cs.  Slide the slider onto the ribbon and attach the ribbon to the other side. Attach the silhouette so that it is resting on the ribbon,

Adventure and Curiosity

Stamp the  sentiment on the DSP with Early Espresso ink. Attach a Very Vanilla panel on the inside and decorate by stamping and/or using DSP.  The silhouette is looking through set of binoculars looking to explore the wordl.

Adventure and curiosity

Decorate the envelope if you like and mail away to someone who likes adventure and curiosity.

Clean & Simple or Wow cards? Which do you like to create?

Simply Said With Karen Posted on June 25, 2020 by Karen GilbertJune 25, 2020

Creating Clean & Simple or Wow cards is a choice made by many paper crafters. Which is your choice? Could it be that you like to create both types of cards?  Do you decide which type to make depending upon who will receive the card. These are a couple of questions that we often have to make.

Where do you get your ideas from?  Do you see a card that you like on Pinterest, or type in the name of a stamp for a google search?  Maybe the inspiration comes from Stampin’ Up’s Annual catalogue.  Well, I have one more source of inspiration for you, and that are Card Sketches.

A couple of weeks ago , I needed to create a card and the creative juices just would not flow.  Has this ever happened to you? It likely has because sooner or later,we all can have artistic block. And, to get the juices flowing again, we need a bit of help.

So where do you get creativity help.  One idea is to used card sketches which provide you with layouts and suggestions for different elements on the front.  Another idea is to use the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue which has great card suggestions created by Artistic Creators.

This card is based on a sketch that was posted on my Facebook Page last week. Also,  I did a Facebook live video that I will post as well.  Scroll down the left hand side and click Videos.clean & simple or wow cards
