Why I Love The Sand & Sea Suite And You Will Love It Too

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 16, 2021 by Karen GilbertJanuary 16, 2021

Why I love the Sand & Sea Suite. There are several reasons to love this suite. Here are 3 of the reasons and I am sure that you will find more reasons.

Why I love the Sea and Sand Suite

Here are my Reasons:

  1. The colors used in the Designer Series Paper are so and remind be of a sunny day at the ocean. The colors incorporated into the papers are:
  2. The new Pearlescent paper is to die for. It is a soft vanilla with a hint of sheen. You can emboss it with embossing folders, and then add colour with sponge daubers, or Stampin’ Sponges, or the new Blending Brushes. Stamped images come out beautifully.
  3. The embossing folder will add texture to stamped areas or die cut areas. You are able to die cut and emboss portions as the die cut portions are easy to line up.

Recipe for Why I Love the Sea & Sand Suite

  • Stamp Set: Friends are Like Seashells.
  • Ink: Sahara Sand, Seaside Spray, Night of Navy, Blushing Bride, Soft Seafoam, Crumb Cake Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper ( Sahara Sand speckle, and Seaside Spray/White.
  • Paper: Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Soft Seafoam,.
  • Accessories: Stampin Up Emboss & Cut Machine, Seaside Seashells die, Tasteful Touches Labels, Opal Rounds, Flowers for Every Season Combo (Faux Linen Whisper White), Dark Seaside Spay Stampin Blend, Wink of Stella.
Why I love the Sand & Sea Suite

Create the Card

  1. Card Base: Crumb Cake – 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″. Use Bone Folder to burnish fold.

  3. With the piece that looks like sand, ink the splatter stamp with Crumb Cake. Layer on the card base.
  4. With the paper that looks like water, line up in your cutter with short side at top and move paper so that it is diagonal. Line up the paper at the 2-1/2″ and the 1-1/2″mark at the bottom. Once you have it lined up, cut with Stampin/ Cutter. See Diagram below
  5. Layer on the sand printed paper.
  6. Stamp on Whisper White cs and die cut the following: the 2 small seashells with Soft Spray ink, the large seashell with stamped off Crumb Cake, the medium shell with Blushing Bride ink . Line up the elements in the embossing folder and run through the Stampin Emboss and Cut Machine. Use the Wink of Stella for highlights and glitter.
  7. Use the grasses image and stamp 2 on Whisper White with Night of Navy. Die cut.
  8. Now, with Soft Seafoam cs, die cut some grasses.

Specialty Golden Garden Paper and the Art Gallery Bundle

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 3, 2021 by Karen GilbertJanuary 3, 2021

Use the Specialty Golden Garden Paper to set off any papers when used as an overlay, The SDSP is acetate and enhanced with gold designs.

There are a number of products in this suite that I really like, for instance: the Gilded Leafing Embellishment which adds sparkle, the Fine Art Ribbon, which is a tightly woven ribbon with gold sparkle running though it, and of course the Golden Garden, the acetate overlays.

I had surgery at the beginning of December and I can that I was apprehensive about staying in the hospital overnight because of COVID. All, I can say is that the protocols were in place and I never felt in jeopardy. I have great care by the nursing and the surgical team and imaging. At this time we need to thank our teams that keep us safe and still perform their much needed skills.

Fine Art Floral Suite Birthday Card – A Sneak Peek

Simply Said With Karen Posted on December 19, 2020 by Karen GilbertDecember 21, 2020

Fine Art Floral Suite is elegant and suitable for a Birthday card. So what, make the suite so elegant.  It’s the  paper that looks to be watercoloured, and the Gilded Leafing embellishment which add that special little bit of gold foil to the various flowers.  And, it expands when you open the jar, so have another larger container near by to dump the foil into.(just a word from someone who knows).  And there is no way to get the foil back in the original jar.

Fine Art Floral Suite Birthday Card

Floral Birthday Card Recipe

  • Stamp set: Art Gallery
  • Ink: VersaMark
  • Paper: Thick Whisper White, Blushing Bride, Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper (the 2 pieces of DSP need to be complimentary).

  • Take some of the Gilded Leafing Embellishment and apply to the areas where you used the VersaMark and Heat & Stick powder. Brush off the excess leafing with your finger or a tiny brush.
  • Attached your gilded dsp to the card base at an angle. Trim even with your card base.
  • Cut the Blushing Bride card stock with the smallest Celebration Labels Die. Die cut the sentiment from Whisper White cs. You can use all the words or some of the words. They are not joined together. Attach on an angle to the Blushing Bride label.

ONSTAGEATHOME Stampin’ Up!’s Virtual Convention

Simply Said With Karen Posted on November 9, 2020 by Karen GilbertNovember 9, 2020

ONSTAGEATHOME is what? Every year Stampin’ Up! holds it’s annual convention to celebrate demonstrators and their accomplishments. As well, there are sneak peeks at new products, stamping time and those wonderful Prize Patrols.

This year they needed to be innovative because COVID 19 stood in their way. Due to explosion of cases, and restrictions on travel, SU needed to use another platform to bring us all together. And, yes, they did find a way.

We gathered virtually on a platform that would show case many of the things we usually see at the conventions. There were general sessions, stamping sessions using new products, and yes, stamping together but apart. Along with these, there was a guest speaker and I will talk about her topic later. And of course a stamping session with Sara Douglas (CEO) and Shelli Gardner (President and Founder).

I enjoy these sessions with Sara and Shelli not only because they are mother and daughter, but because their presentations are informative and funny.

You should see some of the new products. Unfortunately, I cannot show you the products unless I physically have them or the new catalogue is available online or in person. But the new Jan 2021 – June 2021 is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and you will love it.

Some products I do have and will share with you because we were able to order them for the convention . We used them in the group stamping,

75 Years Married – What a Milestone For a Loving Couple

Simply Said With Karen Posted on October 20, 2020 by Karen GilbertOctober 20, 2020

75 Years married…That’s a long time. Yes, my Mom and Dad celebrated their anniversary at the end of September.

Unfortunately, they were unable to celebrate it together. Mom is now in a Long-Term Care Home and with COVID 19. visiting in person is not possible. However, we took my Dad to the Care Home and with the aid of a phone and speaker we were able to speak with her. It is so sad for them to be apart.

We did have a good visit and we were able to show Mom a plaque that they received from the British Columbia Premier, John Horgan. The one from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not arrive until a week later. Even though it was late, Mom and Dad really appreciated the gesture. As Mom and Dad are in their mid-90’s we never know if we will get another chance to celebrate with them.

The card I created for them was from the Ornate Garden Suite.

  • Layer and attach the Designer Series Paper,
  • Die cut the Bumble Bee card stock with the narrow die with the holes around the outside. Adhere to panel.
  • Use the smaller die with the scroll frame and cut the So Saffron panel. Attach to Bumble Bee Panel.

It was sad to see my parents apart for this major anniversary, .however we tried to make as celebratory as we could given the circumstances.

Designer Series Paper

Here’s a project using the Forever Greenery DSP, one of the papers in this promotion.

DesignerSeries Paper

The colors in this designer papers are beautiful. There a shades of Pretty Peacock, Just Jade, Garden Green, Shaded Spruce, Soft Seafoam, Pear Pizzazz. The Pretty Peacock cardstock form the basis for this card.

DSP Card Recipe

Stamp Set: Forever Fern.

Ink: Pretty Peacock, Old Olive, VersaMark.

Papers: Whisper White, Pretty Peacock, Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper.

Accessories: Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Greenery Embossing Folder, Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper, Gold Hoops, Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Gold Glitter Enamel Dots, Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack (Just Jade Checked Ribbon), 1-1/2″ Circle Punch, 1-1/4″ Circle Punch.

Paper Cutting Measurements:

Whisper White 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ Score at 4-1/4: Fold and burnish with Bone Folder. plus scraps to stamp leaves and sentiment.

Pretty Peacock- 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″. Scrap to go behind Gold Ring.

Designer Series Paper: 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″.

Instructions to Create the Card

  • The Greenery Embossing Folders are a set of 2. They are narrower than the usual embossing folders. I wanted ti appear as if the embossed panel went across the entire card. Slip the cardstock into the embossing folder and emboss as usual. Remove the cardstock and move it over (left or right depending how you placed the embossing previously. Line up the design with the one that you already did, And run through the Embossing Folder. Place the DSP on thee center of embossed panel and attach with Stampin’ Seal.
  • Stamp and Die cut, various styles of leaves, Adhere a gold shape, (square, hexagon, rectangle) with leaves attached from the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper. Arrange the larger leaves vertically so that they mirror each other and attach. Add a couple of the single leaves from the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper. Cut a piece of ribbon 8″ long. Snip of a piece to use as a faux bow, or commonly knows as a knot. Attach each end for ribbon to the back of panel. Attach this layer to the Whisper White card base . Wrap the shorter piece of ribbon around the one attached to the panel and tie in a knot. Make sure this is one the left side.

Finish Up Your Card

  • Punch a circle from Whisper White scraps with the 1-1/4″ Circle Punch, Punch another circle from the Pretty Peacock with the 1-1/2″ Circle Punch.
  • Now this is the tricky part – Attach the Pretty Peacock circle to the back of the Gold Ring. You will need to be every so careful attaching the paper or you will get glue on the ring. Hold in place until the circle and cardstock are bonded,
  • Stamp the sentiment on the Whisper White circle with VersaMark. Sprinkle with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set with Heat tool. Attach to the Gold circle and then attach everything to the center of the card.
  • If you wish you can place a couple of the Gold Glitter Enamel Dotson the front of the card.
