Art is in the Eye of the Beholder

Simply Said With Karen Posted on November 13, 2010 by Karen GilbertNovember 13, 2010

Hi Everyone:  The French Foliage stamp set is so versatile.  You can use the entire stamp set or use parts of the stamp set with other stamp sets.  I want to try combining this set with the Artistic Etchings stamp set.  Maybe it’s the name, or I like to think of it as the emotion that it conjures up, that these two sets somehow go together…maybe I’m out to lunch.  It’s probably whatever appeals to the eye…after all, art is in the eye of the beholder.

Anyway I digress, so back to the card of the day.  This is a card for Lloyd’s BIL who is celebrating his birthday this month.

Stamps: French Foliage (C-121166 – $17.95, W-120845 – $24.95 P 14 Holiday Mini), After Thoughts (Level 1 Hostess Gift)
Paper: Pumpkin Pie, More Mustard, Crumb Cakes, Always Artichoke, Glossy White
Ink: Early Espresso, More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie, Always Artichoke
Accessories: Linen Thread
Smooch Technique used on the glossy white CS – dab Pumpkin Pie, More Mustard, Always Artichoke inks on a heavy plastic (I used the top lid of a wood stamp container)using a dabber and swoosh the ink around to blend. Take the glossy card stock and slide it across the smooched ink. You can cover as much or as little of the glossy card stock that you wish.

I would like to give credit to Rochelle Gould who inspired this card.

So I am off to start getting ready for two of the grandchildren who will be spending the night with Nan and they want to make crafts…just like Mommy or as Sarah calls her Mama.

Everyone have a great day and until next time…

Did You Remember?

Simply Said With Karen Posted on November 7, 2010 by Karen GilbertJune 21, 2024

Hi Everyone:  Did you remember to set your clocks back 1 hour and get that extra hour of sleep?  Somehow I woke up at my usual time (old time), so missed the hour.  Maybe I will be able to get it back somehow. The only problem being with this time change that it get dark by 4:00 in the afternoon.

Almost the End of October

Simply Said With Karen Posted on October 28, 2010 by Karen GilbertOctober 28, 2010

Hi Everyone:  Well, it’s only 3 more days until the end of October.  I don’t know about you, but for me, the time between September and the end of December just fly by.  Just can’t figure out why.

The card today is one for a Stampin’ Up! workshop that I am holding on November 5th.  If you are interested in hosting a workshop, contact me or visit my Stampin’ Up! website for the details and arranging a date.

It’s still not too late to craft some Christmas cards or some other Christmas crafts.  Did you know that people receiving hand made gifts will keep them longer than when they receive a gift which has been manufactured?  Don’t know who said that but if you look around my house it’s true…hee hee.

Ok now for the card…

Stamps: A Cute Christmas (w- 1208259, c-121133 – p 32 – Holiday Mini

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Baja Blue, Gardner Green, Candy Cane Christmas DSP
Ink: Basic Black craft, Real Red
Fun Accessories: Big Shot, Northern Frost Decorative Strip, Top Note biz die, Ovals original die, Real Red grosgrain ribbon, Large Oval Punch, Medium Oval Punch, Basic Rhinestones, various Markers, Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint

After running the whisper white through the Big Shot (or Big Guy as one of the ladies at my last workshop called him), with the Northern Frost Decorative Strip, I blingged it up (is that a word?) with some champagne mist shimmer paint and added the rhinestone to make sure I had enough bling.  I think it looks ok though, not too over the top. hee, hee

I also really like the colour combination for the Candy Cane Christmas this year…

Enough for tonight and have a great day tomorrow.

Until next time…

More Time Please

Simply Said With Karen Posted on October 24, 2010 by Karen GilbertOctober 24, 2010

Hi Everyone:  I know that we all get 24 hours in a day to use how we want, but sometimes that just isn’t enough, or maybe I have too much on my list.

I held a Stampin’ Up! workshop on Friday night and by all reports was enjoyed by all.  Here is one of the cards that we did.  Hope you enjoy.

Stamps: Christmas Collage (w- 121279 – p 20 – Holiday Mini), Many Merry Messages ( w – 116586 – p41 – IB&C)
Paper: Soft Suede, Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede
Accessories: Sponges, Crochet Trim – Chantilly, Vintage Brads, Stamp-a-ma-jig

I find myself using these 3 colours a lot this year (they have become by favourite, those and the vintage feel).  I am really going to have to branch out.

This is a very quick card and would be great for a stamp a stack session.  The sentiment is stamped using the stamp a ma jig, so that I could get it in the right place…such a great tool for the wood mounted stamps.

Enjoy the rest of your day and I am off to switch out the summer clothes to winter clothes….brrr!

Until next time…

Thanksgiving Turkey Napkin Ring.

Simply Said With Karen Posted on October 11, 2010 by Karen GilbertOctober 11, 2010

Hi Everyone:  Well, Thanksgiving dinner is done and everything cleaned up and put away.  I was watching the news this morning and one of the statistics was that is take 12 hours to shop for the turkey and all the other goodies, chop, slice, mash,  stuff and cook the turkey, 20 min to eat and 4 hours to clean up.  Something is wrong with that picture.  Oh well, we all enjoyed the dinner and it  was fun to have the family around.

Tangled Up in Creativity blog group has been issued a challenge.  You can check out the challenge HERE. April’s Blog. We are to make something that boy scouts could make in about an hour and give to a Senior’s home.  So this is my creation, turkey napkin rings.

These are very easy.  Using a scallop circle punch, punch 4 circles using different colours card stock  Punch one for the turkey and cut one scallop for the head and 3 for his feet.  Sponge his feathers and add feet and eyes using a marker.  Add his waddle, I used an upside down heart and a piece for his beak.  Attach to a strip of card stock, and voila, you have a Thanksgiving Turkey Napkin Ring.

Don’t forget the Clearance Rack

It’s also a happy time over at Stampin’ Up! as there are 200 new items in the clearance rack…You saw right 200 new items at very reduced prices (up to 80%). These will be here until they are sold out, so if you are wanting some new product, check out my site HERE and shop til you drop. Who doesn’t like a good deal!

So, it’s back to work tomorrow.

Until next time…

Simply Said With Karen Posted on October 8, 2010 by Karen GilbertOctober 8, 2010

Hi Everyone:  It’s a time of celebration for us in Canada this weekend.  It’s Thanksgiving and a time to spend with family and friends, eating turkey and pumpkin pies and of course mashed potatoes, and then there’s the extra day off on Monday.  It will be a little squishy in my house because somehow I was elected to cook for 15 people.  Oh well, that means I get the left-overs, yeah!

A Tribute to Tasha

Simply Said With Karen Posted on October 2, 2010 by Karen GilbertJune 21, 2024

Hi Everyone: For anyone who has a pet, we are often faced with the difficult situation when they are sick and this week I had to face that decision.  I put my cat Tasha down as she was very sick.  For her, that was the kindness thing I could do for her.  She was my companion for 16 years. We had good times and times when I referred to her as a female version of Garfield as she had attitude.  We could cuddle but only on her terms.  She is at peace now and not in pain.

Thank you to my family, friends, co-workers and my friends from the Tangled Up in Creativity blogging group. Your actions helped ease the pain.

Tasha

If it should be that I grow frail and weak, And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then you must do want must be done For this, the last battle can’t be won

You will be sad, I understand
Don’t let your grief than stay your hand, For this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship stand the test
We’ve had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears,

You’d not want me to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.
I know in time you will see,

It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.

Don’t grieve it should be you,
Who decides this thing to do,
We’ve been so close we two these years,

Don’t let you heart hold any tears.
Smile for we walked together
For a little while.

Until next time….

Build A Bear Back to School

Simply Said With Karen Posted on September 27, 2010 by Karen GilbertSeptember 27, 2010

Hi Everyone:  we are experiencing a little bit more of summer.  The last week has been pleasant and some days HOT.  This weather is supposed to continue for a few more days.  We are lucky here in the BC interior as places on the coast are experiencing record rainfalls with people having to be evacuated and some towns completely cut off because the roads have been washed away.  I sure do sympathize with those people to have their lives in an up roar.

I still have some room in the October 15th class.  Please contact me for further details.  Don’t miss out!

The cards that I have for the post today are from the Build a Bear.  They are so cute and there are so many things and themes that you can do around them.  They are great for invitations to birthday parties, making colouring books, great for Moms, Dads and Grandparents and generally anyone who has children in their lives.  Or let the kids make their own invitations and cards.  What fun!

Stamps: Beary Best Friends (W-118052), Season of Hugs (W-120823), Cute by the Inch (Level 2 Hostess)
Paper: Textured Whisper White, Poppy, Watercolour, Whisper White
Ink: Black Stazon, Basic Black
Accessories: Big Shot, Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Various Markers, Poppy ribbon, eyelets, Blender Pens, Curly Label Punch

To give some dimension to the apple, I stamped, coloured, cut out and attached with a dimensional.  The flowers on the girl’s dress were stamped using the Season of Hugs stamp.  The word ‘hi” is highlighted in the “ABC”s with a marker to stand out.

Have a great evening.

Until next time….

Simply Said With Karen Posted on September 20, 2010 by Karen GilbertSeptember 20, 2010

Hi Everyone.  Thanks to those who participated in the Tangled Up In Creativity challenge.  The cards were great, the images depicted how you felt about the upcoming season (for most of us it’s Fall, for one member it’s Spring) and the reasons for what you chose were very interesting.  A lot of who we are and what we do are based on memories of family and friends and there were many comments around those memories.

Voting is only open to the Tangled Up In Creativity Blog Group

So the big drum roll….

April

Tangled Up in Creativity Challenge September 14 – 20

Simply Said With Karen Posted on September 13, 2010 by Karen GilbertSeptember 13, 2010

Hi Everyone:  It’s time for another Tangled Up in Creativity challenge.  This is open to all of the members in the Tangled Up in Creativity group and there will be a gift for the one who garners the most votes.

As one season ends another one begins.  The challenge is to create a card that depicts what it is you like about the season coming up.  It can be anything, you are only limited by your imagination.

I have set up a Mr Linky at the bottom of this post so that you can link to my blog straight from yours.  After you have uploaded your card to my site, please go back and leave a comment as to why you chose the elements of your card.  Mr. Linky is open from 12:00 am September 14th until 11:59 pm September 20th.

I chose Fall and the leaves turning colours.  I love the fall colours and when you go out for a drive in the country side the hills are alive with colour and it often looks like a patch work quilt.  I love the smell of fall, the crisp mornings and the beautiful afternoons. One thing for sure that as the leaves change colour and fall to the ground, they will come again in the Spring.

Have Fun!
Until next time…..

1 Stamp, 3 Cards Part 3

Simply Said With Karen Posted on September 12, 2010 by Karen GilbertSeptember 12, 2010

Hi Everyone:  Here is the last card in a series using the Christmas Collage stamp.  This is a fun stamp because it can be used in so many ways – cutting different images from the single stamped image and then using different techniques to finish the card.

This card also uses one of the a la carte stamp found the the Holiday Mini.  This, stamp, too has many possibilities.

Stamps: Christmas Collage (W – 121279), Christmas Postcard (W – 121428 – a la carte)
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Deck the Hall DSP
Ink: Black Stazon, Garden Green
Accessories: Embossing Ink, Gold Embossing Powder, Chantilly ¼” Ribbon, Various Markers, Blender Pen, Dimensionals, Heat Gun

The Post Card image is coloured in using various methods – ink and markers and then blended with the blender pens.

So that’s it – 1 stamp 3 cards.  I hope you have enjoyed.

So until next time….
