SALE-A-BRATION Countdown Day 6

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 17, 2012 by Karen GilbertJanuary 17, 2012
Hi Everyone and here we are at Day 6 of the Sale-A-Bration countdown.  The excitement is building on the way to Day 0.
First, though I have to complain about the weather.  We were so spoiled with mild and sunny weather and now we are paying for it.  The whole of British Columbia is in a deep freeze.  Today in Kamloops it was -19 C (0 F).  The worse part is that the wind is causing a windchill of -30 C (-30F).  Even Vancouver which is located on the coast is suffering.  Washington State is going to be under a massive snowstorm tomorrow, so I don’t envy them.  It’s supposed to warm up by the weekend.  Now that I have finished with the weather forecast, on to the card.

As I promised in my post yesterday, I have not used the Fresh Vintage stamp set.

I hope you enjoy.

Stamps: Best Friends Forever (c-122807, $21.95, w-122805, $28.95, p. 90, 2011/2012 IB&C), Loving Thoughts (c-125845, $28.95, w-125843, $36.95, p. 15, 2012 Occasions Mini)
Paper: Night of Navy, Naturals White, Poppy Parade, Everyday Enchantment DSP
Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Night of Navy
Accessories: Big Shot, Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die, Edgelit Die, Designer Frames, Night of Navy Taffeta Ribbon, Mini Brad, Boho Blossom Punch
The theme of the butterfly on the Everyday Enchantment DSP is carried through as a focal point on the card front.  The butterfly was embossed with the Beautiful Wings embosslit die.
That’s it for this evening, until next time…

Hi Everyone:  It’s now Day 7 of the countdown to Sale-A-Bration.  The excitement is mounting as we approach January 24, 2012.
First, my new counter tops were installed this morning and now I’m just waiting for the plumber to come and hook up the sink.  I will have a picture on my blog when every thing is completed.  The next step is the back-splash.

So back to the reason for my post…it’s Day 7 countdown card

Again, this card uses the Fresh Vintage stamp set and the Everyday Enchantment DSP.  I promise to focus on some other stamps set for my remaining posts. I have also used the Loving Thoughts stamp set, which has so many beautiful and wonderful sayings that will be ideal for many occasions.

Paper: Naturals White, Baja Breeze, Everyday Enchantment DSP
Ink: Soft Suede, Calypso Coral
Accessories: Big Shot, Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder, Lace Ribbon Border Punch, Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon

To add some interest, the Lace Ribbon border was sponged using the Calypso Coral ink.

Enjoy and until next time….

SALE-A-BRATION Countdown Day 8

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 15, 2012 by Karen GilbertJanuary 15, 2012
Hi Everyone.  It’s Day 8 on the countdown to Sale-A-Bration.
Before, I get to my card, though, I had to pull out my winter boots today.  We got about 4 inches of snow last night, which meant I had to shovel… I can’t complain though, because it’s probably the biggest snowfall we have had this year.  It’s going to get colder over the next several days so will have to get the winter woollies out.  Looks like winter is upon us.
The card for today features the Fresh Vintage stamp set and the Everyday Enchantment DSP, which by the way, I just love. It is so pretty.

This is another clean and simple card that you can do in less than 10 minutes.  I never thought I would ever say that, but here I am saying it!

Stamps: Fresh Vintage Stamp, Elementary Elegance
Paper: Soft Suede, Pool Party, Very Vanilla, Poppy Parade, Everyday Enchantment DSP
Ink: Pool Party, Soft Suede
Accessories: ½” Circle Punch, ¾” Circle Punch

Don’t have much time to spend on card making?  I can show you how to make these cards that will take only a few minutes of your time.  Giving a hand-crafted card, gives a bit of yourself.  Contact me HERE
Until next time…

For Baby and PPA126

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 10, 2012 by Karen GilbertJanuary 10, 2012
Hi Everyone.  I hope that it is as beautiful where you are as where I am.  The sun is shining and it’s not even cold…cool but not cold.  Although I think it is coming sometime this week.
I have a Baby card for you today.  Lloyd’s grandson was born in Japan on December 26th and our Christmas Day because of the time difference.  The best part is that he was born on his Great Grandmother’s birthday and his middle name is after his Great Grandfather.  What a lovely Christmas and Birthday present for the family.
This card was inspired by Penny and I fell in love with the overall look of her card.  It is also for the Pals Paper Art colour challenge this week.

Stamps: Stitched Stockings, Take It To Heart (c-125522 $28.95, w-1255205, $36.95, p14 2012 Occasions Mini)
Paper: Very Vanilla, Not Quite Navy, Twitterpated DSP
Ink: Not Quite Navy
Accessories: Big Shot, Labels Framelit Die, Perfect Polka Dots Die,  Stocking Punch, Chantilly ½” Lace Trim, Pearls
I am so loving these new Framelit Dies.
I did find a tip that makes them easier to line up on your paper.

I used Repositional Scotch Tape and attached the die to the paper after the die was aligned on the paper.
The tape prevents the die from slipping around, leaves no residue on your die or your paper and you can reuse if you stick the tape somewhere where you can remember.
Next time you use your Framelits and/or Edglits Dies, try this tip.

So until next time…

Valentine Class Card

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 7, 2012 by Karen GilbertJanuary 7, 2012
Good morning Everyone.  Today I have a Valentine’s Card for my card class this month.

I tried something new and used the largest heart from the Heart Framelit Collection to make the card base for an easel card and I am pleased with the way it turned out.  The cutout heart using the Twitterpated DSP is outlined using the Riding Hood Red Pleated Satin Ribbon and the smaller heart is stamped using versamark ink and then embossed with Cherry Cobbler embossing powder.
To hold the card open, I used the flag stamp from the Take It To Heart stamp set, cut it out and mounted using dimensionals.  A bunch of hearts were added using the Fashionable Hearts embosslits.

Stamps: Take It To Heart (c-125522 $28.95, w-1255205, $36.95, p14 2012 Occasions Mini), Sentiment (retired)
Paper: Textured Whisper White, Blushing Bride, Riding Hood Red, Twitterpated DSP
Ink: Riding Hood Red, Basic Grey
Accessories: Big Shot, Heart Collection Framelit Die, Fashionable Hearts Embosslit Die, Blushing Bride Pleated Satin Ribbon, Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder, Versa Mark

Well, it’s back to my love/hate relationship with my computer and the Internet.  I keep loosing my Internet connection.
Until next time….

Random Acts of Kindness in the New Occasions Mini

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 6, 2012 by Karen GilbertJanuary 6, 2012

Hi Everyone.  It’s here, the Occasions Mini Catalogue and it’s packed with new framelit and edgelit dies, new stamps, new beautiful designer papers, ruffled ribbons, new baker twine.  I could go on and on and….Click on the catalogue over on left and you will be taken to my on line shopping site where you can download the catalogue or just shop.

I want to share with you a card that I have done for a friend to show her that I am thinking about her.  It’s makes one feel good to send out one of these Random Acts of Kindness (also known as RAK) cards.
This card uses the new Mixed Bunch stamp set along with the new Blossom punch and Paper Doily die.

Stamps: Mixed Bunch (c-125537, $26.95, w-125535, $33.95, p. 17, 2012 Occasions Mini), Creative Elements(c-122647, $30.95, w-122645, $40.95, p. 137, 2011-2012 IB&C)
Paper: Naturals White, Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White, Always Artichoke, Paisley Petals DSP
Ink: Cherry Cobbler
Accessories: Big Shot, Lattice Embossing Folder, Paper Doily Die, Punches: Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border, Modern Label Blossom, Versamark, Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder, Wild Wasabi Embossing Powder

The Paper Doily is partially cut out and the Blossom punch has been used to create a mat for the flower.

To create this mat
  • punch out a piece of card stock using the Blossom punch
  • using scissors, clip each petal apart
  • attach these petals to the back of each of the petals to the flower leaving a slight edge
The flower center was embossed using Wild Wasabi embossing powder and creating contrast with the Always Artichoke.

I needed to make this a mailable card so I used other elements for embellishing the card while still creating contrast.
Well, that’s it for this post, so until next time…

Hi Everyone and Happy New Year and the best to everyone for 2012.
For my post today, I would like to share the last few pages of my Panama Cruise photo book with you.
So on with the show and I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I dedicated this Photo book to my 87 years young parents who went on the cruise with us.  They enjoyed the trips with their “kids” and we enjoyed having them come with us.

New Year, New Look

Simply Said With Karen Posted on December 26, 2011 by Karen GilbertDecember 26, 2011
Hi Everyone:  I started my blog 2 years ago, so it’s time for a new look.  I have finally decided what I wanted my blog to look like so have been working on it over the past couple of weeks.
You may recognize some of the images and the colours I used in my headers.  Actually it all has been done using My Digital Studio with some editing once I had applied all the elements.   Some of the images come from the new Occasions Mini (ordering starts on January 4, 2012 and some from the Sale-a-bration (you can order starting January 24, 2012.
Although you will see the majority of the changes today, there is still some tweaking that I will have to do over the next several days.
Until next time…

Last Christmas Card and Two Challenges

Simply Said With Karen Posted on December 17, 2011 by Karen GilbertDecember 17, 2011
Hi Everyone:  Well, I have done my last Christmas card for 2011…it’s been a blast.  I may have to do some more tags if I buy any more gifts.
My card today was based on 2 challenges, The Paper Players colour challenge and the Split Coast Stampers Free for All Challenge.
Ann Schach over at the Paper Players has a great colour challenge using Gold, Cherry Cobbler and Very Vanilla.  Perfect for Christmas cards.

Over at Split Coast Stampers, Wendybell’s challenge is Winter Flowers.  What says Winter Flowers more than Poinsettias.

Stamps: Hello Doily (w – 122845, $21.95 p. 127, 2011-2012 IB&C), Build A Blossom (c-121994, $22.95, w – 121923, $31.95 p. 112, 2011-2012 IB&C), Tiny Tags (c-118592, $20.95, w – 118091, $27.95 p. 136, 2011-2012 IB&C)
Paper: Very Vanilla, Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler, Brushed Gold
Ink: Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler
Accessories: Big Shot, Vintage Wall Paper Embossing Folder, Versa-mark, Clear Embossing Powder, Gold Embossing Powder, Crochet Trim, Pearls, Vintage Trinkets, Blossom Petals Builder, Jewelry Tag Punch,
The Cherry Cobbler card stock was embossed and then distressed to give that vintage look and then to complete the look the doily stamp stamped on Brushed Gold and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.  The Poinsettia’s petals were stamped using Versamark and embossed as well with the Clear Embossing Powder and punched out using the Blossom Petals Builder punch.
Now I am off to wrap some more gifts and hopefully that will be all finished today.
Until next time…..
