Birthday Ensemble

Simply Said With Karen Posted on February 26, 2012 by Karen GilbertFebruary 26, 2012
Hi Everyone, hope you are enjoying your Sunday.
Today, I have a Birthday Ensemble to share with you…a Memory Board, Birthday card and yes, Cupcakes and they all utilized various Stampin’ Up! products.  Oh what fun I had!
We celebrated a friend’s birthday today and her favorite flowers are pink roses, hence the rose theme in her Memory Board and Card.

First off is the Memory Board

Paper: Regal Rose, Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake Neutrals DSP Stack
Ink: Rose Red, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories: Big Shot, Paper Doily Die, Bird Builder punch, Fancy Flower Punch, , Spring Time Vintage Fabric,  Whisper White 5/8” Satin Ribbon,  Not Quite Navy 1-1/4” Grosgrain Ribbon, Cork, Hat Pins.
Non-Stampin’ Up! –  White Foam Board, Batting, Decorative Tack Pins, Hot Glue Gun, White Poster Board
Next is the card

Stamps: Elementary Elegance Stamp Set  (2012 Sale-a-Bration), Fifth Avenue Floral(w-113734  $29.95 p. 110, 2011/2012 IB&C),
Paper: Regal Rose, Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz, Subtles DSP Stack
Ink: Rose Red, Crumb Cake
Accessories: Big Shot, Paper Doily Die, Manhattan Rose Embossing Folder, Pearls, Punches: Blossoms, Markers – Regal Rose, Rose Red, Pink Pirouette  Regal Rose Seam Binding Ribbon, Vellum, Versa Mark, White Embossing Powder, Rosette, Pearl, Blushing Bride Mooch Spritz
The Manhattan Flower that is embossed on the Crumb Cake card stock is sponged with with Crumb Cake ink to highlight the design.  The vellum card stock is stamped with Versa-mark and embossed with White Embossing Powder.  Turn the velum over and colour using markers.  This gives a stained-glass effect to the flower.  The flower is fussy cut and then attached to Rose Red card stock.  The rose leaves are punched from Pear Pizzazz card stock with the Blossom punch from the Occasion Mini catalogue.  Don’t miss out on any of these wonderful products, because after April 30, 2012, some may be gone forever.
Finally, the FINALE
The cupcakes were decorated by incorporating the Outlined Expressions stamp set that is currently available FREE with a $60.00 order.  Check out the products that are available with SALE-A-BRATION until March 31, 2012.

Stamps: Outlined Occasions Stamp Set  (2012 Sale-a-Bration), Fifth Avenue Floral(w-113734  $29.95 p. 110, 2011/2012 IB&C
Accessories: Big Shot, Paper Doily Die, Cake Fondant, Gel Colours for Icing, Aqua Brush, Vodka, Gold Waffle Paper, Red Velvet Cupcakes

Rubber Stamping meets the Baking World.
I had a great time making the decorations for these cupcakes. If you like to bake and stamp, you can now do these 2 things at the same time.
Deb Valder has an excellent video on how this is done.
So there you have it…the Birthday Ensemble
Until next time…..

Decorated Box Top

Simply Said With Karen Posted on February 20, 2012 by Karen GilbertFebruary 20, 2012
Hi Everyone and I hope you had a happy Monday.  My grandson, who does ski racing, won a gold medal for his age group this weekend.  Do we have another “Crazy Canuck” on our hands?  Way to go Nathan!!
My project today is the box top for a set of cards.  This will be part of my fundraising donation for the silent auction to raise money for the Harper Mountain Ski Club (the one Nathan belongs to).  The box contains 8 different occasions cards, from Birthday to….Thinking of You.  I will also be adding a stamp, some DSP and a gift certificate.

Stamps: Mixed Bunch (c-125537, $26.95, w-125535, $33.95, p. 17, 2012 Occasions Mini), Tiny Tags(w-118091 $27.95, c – 118592 $20.95 p. 136, 2011/2012 IB&C),  Build a Blossom (w-121923 $31.95, c – 121994 $22.95 p. 112, 2011/2012 IB&C)
Paper: Perfect Plum, Concord Crush, So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White, Flirtatious DSP, Subtle DSP Stack
Ink: Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz, Blushing Bride
Accessories: Big Shot, Paper Doily Die, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Backgrounds 1 Textuz Plates, Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets, Dazzling Diamonds, Pearls, Punches: Blossoms, Blossom Petals Builder, Boho, ½” Circle, Bird Builder, Jewelry Tag,  Pear Pizzazz Seam Binding Ribbon, White Bakers Twine
Have you used the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets?  They will turn anything into a sticker.   The Mixed Blossom flower was stamped on Whisper White card stock using So Saffron and Concord Crush classic inks, and then the a piece of adhesive sheet applied over the entire art piece. Punch out the flower with the Blossom punch.

Tip: Make sure that the piece of adhesive sheet is slightly smaller than the stamped art piece.  This will help in making sure that your punch does not get clogged with adhesive.

Remove the protective sheet and cover with Dazzling Diamonds.  So much easier than applying glue and then the Dazzling Diamonds.

Here’s to a great evening and until next time…

A BIrthday Card

Simply Said With Karen Posted on February 15, 2012 by Karen GilbertFebruary 15, 2012
Hi Everyone:  I hope that you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day and gave out a little love.
My card today is a birthday card for my grandson.  He is turning 8 and I would like to know where the time goes.  He is getting so grown up.  I have a special bond with him as I was at the hospital to see him born.  His Dad was on a business trip and missed the birth by about 15 min.  He was born a month early so Dad and Mom thought there would be no problem with a business trip.  These little guys come when they decide and sometimes the unexpected happens.
He loves to ski  and is on a race team and this stamp is the closest I could get to skiing.

Stamps: On Your Birthday (w-111664 $41.95, p. 163, 2011/2012 IB&C), Extreme Snowboard (Retired)
Paper: Whisper White, Naturals White, Basic Black, Morning Mocha
Ink: Basic Black, Sahara Sand, Baja Breeze, Marina Mist
Accessories: Big Shot, Timeless Type Junior Alphabet, Glimmer Brads, Dazzling Diamonds, Brayer, Versa-mark, Black Embossing Powder.

I love creating scenes and using the brayer and don’t do it as often as I would like.
I hope that you enjoy.
Until next time….

Freshly Made Swap

Simply Said With Karen Posted on February 12, 2012 by Karen GilbertFebruary 12, 2012

Hi Everyone: Today, my post is for the challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches challenge plus it is also for a swap.  I got the idea for my card from Sandy Mathis over at Stamp with Sandy.

Thank you Sandy for the inspiration.

The challenge at Freshly Made Sketches is called “seeing double”.

Stamps: Flower Fest (c-122280, $24.95, w-122278, $33.95, p. 124, 2011/2012 IB&C), Just Believe (c-120453, $31.95, w-116948, $41.95, p. 109, 2011/2012 IB&C)
Paper: Naturals Ivory, Cajun Craze, Pear Pizzazz, Always Artichoke,
Ink: River Rock, Always Artichoke
Accessories: Big Shot, Label Framelits, 5-Petal Flower Punch, Versa-mark, White Embossing Powder, Pearls, Very Vanilla 5/8” Satin Ribbon

To make the leaves, I stamped another flower from the set and punched out with the 5-Petal Flower punch and then cut the petals apart to use for the leaves.

This colour combination is new to me and I am very pleased with the way it came together.  I am certainly loving the framelit dies.
Enjoy the rest of your evening and until next time.

February Club Card

Simply Said With Karen Posted on February 8, 2012 by Karen GilbertFebruary 8, 2012
Hi Everyone,  It’s Wednesday and you know what that means…slide into the weekend.
My share today is the final project for the February Club coming up this Friday.  If you would like to join us, contact me HERE and I will give you the details.  It’s fun and I offer different techniques to get you on your way to happy stamping and making cards.
I used My Digital Studio to print 2 umbrellas  from the Rue De Fleur digital stamp set using Concord Crush colour.

With the first umbrella, I cut the card stock so that the umbrella ended up in the middle and the second umbrella, I cut out and used dimensionals to give the umbrella a 3-D look.  I used pastels to colour the lace along the bottom, attached one of the new larger peals to the top and a smaller pearl on the umbrella handle.

If you want to try this technique and don’t have the My Digital Studio software, you are in luck.
Stampin’ Up! has a FREE Trial offer for My Digital Studio going on right now.  Check out my Free Trial  page to find out the details and you can be on  your way to creating Hybrid cards (hybrid cards are those that combine digital and crafting supplies.
This offer is good only until the end of February.

Stamps: Rue De Fleur (My Digital Studio Download 125924), Loving Thoughts (c-125845, $28.95, w-125843, $36.95, p. 15, 2012 Occasions Mini)
Paper: Whisper White, Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Attic Boutique DSP
Ink: Concord Crush
Accessories: Big Shot, Fancy Fan Letterpress Plate, Ticket Punch, Pastels, Wisteria Wonder Ruffled Ribbon, Crochet Trim, Large Pearls Basic Jewels, Pearls, Hat Pin, Versa-mark

That’s it for today, until next time…

Bordering Birthday

Simply Said With Karen Posted on February 5, 2012 by Karen GilbertFebruary 5, 2012

Hi Everyone.  We are having a beautiful day today and the birds are very happily singing away.  Yesterday, the TV had pictures of people out in shorts and tank tops and roller blading (only in Vancouver, eh?)  It’s not exactly shorts and tank top weather here in Kamloops but I will take the sunshine.
The card I am sharing today is from the Bordering on Romance set.  This set is so pretty and when combined with the Twitterpated DSP or the Attic Boutique DSP, a truly beautiful card can emerge.
This card was also done for a former co-worker’s birthday.  She celebrated a milestone and I was invited into the office to help celebrate.  A chocolate birthday card was presented to her and it’s hoot.

I hope you can read it.  I can’t remember what kind of chocolate bar the first one  and the 7th one is

  1. ???
  2. Snicker
  3. Crunch
  4. Rollo
  5. Scor
  6. After Eight
  7. ???
  8. Fun Dip
  9. Wunderbar
  10. Smarties

February Club Project

Simply Said With Karen Posted on February 3, 2012 by Karen GilbertFebruary 3, 2012
Hi Everyone.  It’s Friday and we are into the 2nd month of 2012.  I just am not sure where the time goes or what I do with it.  Some of the time I do know what I do with it, as kitchen renos have been going on.  I have new countertops and backsplash and the other thing that I am very sure of is that Lloyd will never ever do another backsplash.  The kitchen is going to look spectacular (at least in my eyes).  When it gets completely done, I will share pictures.
For the February Club, I decided to do a ensemble, a box and a card.  The box will be good for a gift, treats or what ever else you may want to fit in it.

Stampin’ Up! has given us a set of Sweet Shop stickers in the Occasions Mini.  These would be a quick and easy way to add interest to your scrapbook page and/or a card. Check out my store to see the whole set.  Click HERE.  In fact, there is a whole suite of products called Sweet Shop.

Stamps: Mouth Watering (c-125677, $20.95, w-125675, $25.95, p. 34, 2012 Occasions Mini), Just Believe (c-120453 $31.95, w-116498, $41.95, p109 2011-2012 IB&C),
Paper: Whisper White Textured, Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, Sweet Shop DSP
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Big Shot, Tasteful Trim Die, Scallop Circle Die, 2-1/2” Circle Punch, Versamark Pen, Markers: Chocolate Chip, Calypso Coral, Real Red, Melon Scented Emboss Powder, Jelly Bean Brad
Co-ordinating Box (4×4)
Paper: Pool Party, Sweet Shop DSP, Clear Window Sheets
Accessories: Big Shot, Labels Framelit Dies, Sweet Shop Stickers, Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon

The new Simply Scored tool, makes it so easy to make boxes, score cards, add interest to card fronts and the gazillion scores for a rosette.
The Simply Scored tool comes with markers, a stylus and is divided into 1/8th inch score tracks.  Very soon, Stampin’ Up! will be introducing a diagonal tool that will help you make envelopes.   Check out the Simply Scored tool HERE
That’s it for my post today.  Until next time….

For those that take advantage of  this FREE offer, I will be holding a Getting Started Class.  Check back here on Tuesday, and I will provide you with more details.

The Birthday Stamp-a-Stack is over and it was a success in spite of the snowfall that we had.  I had 10 people attend and there were lots of laughs, chatter and sharing of stamping and card making knowledge.
Here is one of the cards that they went home with.
Stamps: My Friend (c – 122587 $24.95 w-125585, $33.95, p139 2011-2012 IB&C), Apothecary Art (c – 122527 $33.95 w-125525, $42.95, p. 17, 2012 Occasions Mini)

Birthday Card Stamp a Stack

Simply Said With Karen Posted on January 27, 2012 by Karen GilbertJanuary 27, 2012
Hi Everyone:  I have been neglecting my blog and blog visits this week.  It has been a busy week getting ready for the Birthday Card Stamp a Stack tomorrow.  I have 12 ladies coming and making 10 cards so that is a lot of designing and card stock cutting.  I think I am all together for tomorrow and I know we will be having FUN, FUN, FUN!!
Over the next several posts, I will be sharing the various cards that we will be making tomorrow.
So for the first one:

Stamps for Man Cards are usually hard to find, so this one, “Packed for Dad”, is a great one.  I am thinking that there are a lot of different ways to use this stamp.  This card also smells very nice with the new Vanilla Emboss Powder that is available in the Occasion Mini catalogue.  Ooh so many things.

This card uses the Spotlight technique and highlights some the various man things to make them stand out.

To give this card a further man feeling, I used the spritzer and spritzed a little Soft Suede ink around and completed the sentiment with a Metal Brad

Stamps: Packed for Dad (w-125672 $ 11.95 p. 39 2012 Occasions Mini), Patterned Party (c – 123067 $22.95, W – 123065 $32.95, p. 68, 2011-2012 IB&C)
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Naturals Ivory, Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, Well Worn DSP
Ink: Early Espresso Craft, Soft Suede,
Accessories: Soft Suede Marker, Spritzer, Metal Brad, Big Shot, Circles Die, 1-3/4” Circle Punch, Round Tab Punch, Vanilla Scented Emboss Powder

Don’t forget Sale-a-Bration is in full swing.  Get in on the free products by contacting me to host a Private Class.  As a Hostess, you receive many wonderful benefits that I just know you can’t do without. LOL
